Dairy Free Coffee Creamer

I'm a coffee addict. Given the lack of sleep I've endured these last few years, I honestly can't imagine life without java. I want to fully participate in my children's GFCF lifestyle, but haven't been able to give up milk-based creamer. I like to use flavored creamers because it makes a cup of coffee a real treat for me. Unfortunately, these are often loaded with fat, sugar, dairy and unpronounceable chemicals. So, I set off to make a healthier alternative. This is what I came up with.

Dairy Free Coffee Creamer

1 can coconut milk
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 tablespoon sugar (or alternative sweetener)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Combine all ingredients in blender and mix until smooth. Refrigerate.

Note: You can adjust the cocoa powder and sugar amounts to taste.

Does this have a taste like French Vanilla creamer? Sounds delicious! Any ideas how to give it the hazelnut flavor? :)

Hope you guys like it!

Nicole, this one has a mild chocolate flavor. For more of a french vanilla taste, I think I'd omit the cocoa powder and increase the sugar & vanilla extract (maybe double them?).

This won't lighten the coffee as much as regular creamer does, but it does add a foam to the top.

You can also try other extracts for different flavors such as almond, hazelnut, etc.

I am on this one! Perfect timing too. I was just reading my Coffeemate liquid creamer label and saw that odd word that I cannot pronounce: carrageenan. It's an additive that we are to avoid along with MSG and Aspartame, according to our dr.

Thanks for sharing your secret recipe!!

Forever grateful...

I made some more tonight and my sugar was some leftover mixed cinnamon and sugar, it turned out great again. The cinnamon was also a nice added flavor.

:)

Thanks for the tip, Julee! I think I'll try it with cinnamon too.
